This radiography is used to determine the exact position of the roots and additional and hidden teeth, determine the position of foreign bodies of the jaw, the presence of salivary gland stones, evaluate the location and spread of the fracture of the jaw. This imaging is often used as an initial evaluation image. which can provide a general view or in determining the need for other types of imaging, the help of this radiography is useful for patients who do not tolerate the intraoral imaging process.

 Applications of panoramic radiography:

 1- Examining maxillary fractures

2- Assessment of the condition of the third molar or wisdom tooth

3- Development and growth of teeth in mixed dental period

 4- Developmental anomalies

5- Extensive dental and bone lesions

 Disadvantages:

1- Its resolution is lower than internal oral radiographs, and intraoral radiographs must be prepared to detect early stages of caries.

2- The overlap of the premolars, which is naturally present in panoramic images, and when it is large, additional bitewing radiographs are prepared to detect interdental caries in these areas.

3- Adjusting the position of the patient inside the device requires great accuracy and any error that occurs in the position of the patient affects the diagnostic quality of the radiograph.
